My friend recently adopted 2 california kingsnakes. These snakes were kept on a small amount of sand(in a 10 gallon tank) without hides or a heat source. Also they eat FT but the previous owners said they like to put a live mouse in for a treat once in a while. (so the snake can kill). After I stopped banging my head against the wall, I told her to ask them if the snakes like to kill for the glory (like a gladiator) or do they do it for money (like a mercenary). She also asked why they didn't have hides. The owners stated the snakes were very happy without the hides. See they know alot about snakes and can tell they were very happy. She has since moved them to seperate 20 gallon tanks with 2 hides and a temperature controlled heat source. She also put in cypress mulch for the substrate. Oh one more thing. These people said they had another snake which was a coral snake but it died. We live in NJ and these are illegal. I also don't think for a minute that it was a coral snake, since these people seem to be the most ignorant people around.
