Had to put her down

rdperry5 Jan 31, 2009 04:13 PM

It's been a long time since I've been here. I had to put my Jasmine down today. She was eight years old and had liver and kidney failure. She lost a lot of weight during brumation. The vet did labs on her last summer, but it came back ok. I will miss her greatly.

That's a shame. How did they know she had liver and kidney failure?

She had lost her fat pads, looked jaundiced, and was very dehydrated. The vet felt her abdomen for a while and looked her over really well. I guess the only way to know for sure would to be a necropsy or labs, but I believe that is what it was. I lost her cage mate Lily last April. We did a necropsy on her and it was liver failure. Lily had no signs of illness. I'm not doing a necropsy on Jasmine. I got both of them from the same place at the same time when they were about 2 years old. I have some really nice pics of them, portrait size, that I will cherish. They were my babies, next to my kids.
