genetics unknown(pics)...DUW

nuthnbutbalz Jan 31, 2009 07:41 PM

i have a female whose genetics are unknown, but i think she looks like she might be a vanilla. all i know is that she came from ben siegel reptiles. i bred her last year for the first time and only 2 eggs survived incubation. the father was either my cinnie or my het red. the offspring look like neither one exactly.
i posted pics of offspring #2, before, and i got a mixed response. some said he was a cinnie, some said het red and some said black pastel.
i still don't know what to call any of them.

Well that first hatchling certainly looks like mom, almost a carbon copy(but since everything is genetic, the real question is whether or not this "look" will lead to a new morph or not.)...To me,that second hatchling looks like it's a hra that is also influenced by mom as well(a "carbon copy"/hra combo).

Are they both males?...If so,breed the dark one to a normal girl(to see if you get more mom copies, and hra or cinnys),,and then breed that first one back to mom(,to see if there is a gene to isolate.)

yes both are male. the first one hasn't shown any interest in the ladies yet and i don't think he'll be ready this year. the second one has been a real problem feeder and i'm not sure if he's going to make it or not. they hatched in september and he's only eaten six times and four of those i had to hook him.

yea he's not doing well. he just doesn't want to eat on his own. i had to hook him the first 2 times he ate. then he ate on his own twice and then just stopped. i've hooked him twice more since and i'm not going to do it any more. i don't know if it's failure to thrive or not.
