Controlling Heating Costs

pinky Feb 01, 2009 07:46 AM

I'm getting anxious to warm some things up but I don't want to heat the entire room. I have a nice size incubator about 2' x 2' x 3' and I thought I would just fire this thing up at the normal 83 degrees and start warming all of the hatchlings form last year that have been in brumation for the past two months. I was wondering what similar things have been done to heat small areas of the house. I have a half bath that I was thinking about heating with an oil filled radiator.

?.....hang tarps and make the room half a room?.....cellar?......easier to staple the tarps down in basements....not as much worry with staple holes as if it was a bedroom /upstairs room....

........if they fit in the incubator and can get air....go for it...smaller the better I would guess.....

I started bringing mine up last week.....males and a few odd things.....but I heat the whole room all year anyways......

lost the amel bloodred....think he was sick when he went down......he smelled real good today....guess he died like 2 days ago.....good thing tonight is trash night.....

Cranking the central heat up until we are cozy lol.I guess we are not doing as bad as most though. Honestly I keep the heat on 70F most of the time and my electric bill only hits about $260 on the high side. A great deal of this I found was from the 4 lights "2 heat and 2 UV" on our iguana enclosure, the heat lights are on 24/7 but not anymore. Now poor Scooter has to just deal with the 70F that the room temp is at night.
