prolapse: need help fast

faerie822 Sep 10, 2003 11:46 AM

i woke up this morning & my yellow belly had this odd black thing hanging by his back legs...i called my vet & there wasnt anyone there to take him to until tomorrow but they suggested it might be a prolapse. none of my other turtles have done this before, so i dont know how to deal with it. according to a site i visited earlier theres no real way to tell why this happened so i dont know what to do to prevent it. its disappeared now, but is lke to avoid it happeneing again, if at all possible. any help, past experiences, advice, anything would be greatly appreciated. this little guy is one of my babies & i panic.

thanks a lot.

eh it is his penis. it is normal for it to come out sometimes but if it stays out for a long time, then it is prolapse. if it goes back in, it's nothing to worry about.

Yea it should go back in otherwise you might have problems.

heh after some research, i figured that part out. sorry for the dumb question, ive never had that particular...um...instance happen before. i read in a few places it could be his intestines, too, so i was kinda panicking. thankfully, it went away a few minutes later, so my guess is you were right. thanks for the help.
