Is my dragon underweight?

kirokiro Feb 02, 2009 07:43 AM

He's been off his food for a while - abt 5 days now... he is 13.5 inches long and weighs 118 gram. Pls advise.

2 days back I soak him in water and he pooped, and now he's like 1 gram lighter..:P

Otherwise, he is alert and looks fine.

Are translucents less robust than normal dragons?

Well, the 5 days off food I would concentrate on that......why, how, and what to do to correct it.

That weight sounds maybe a little light, I would have to check some of my dragons in that size range, but im thinking most of them at that length are probably 150-175, I could be wrong, but thats what im thinking

I have limited hands on experience with trans, but I do have 2 which one of them was seriously small and lightweight, but she is coming around. I have seen a handful that are nice and plump, but I have seen alot of trans that appear to be small, or are smaller than what I would like. I think with some outcrossing and breeding het to het more, I think they will come around.

at 13inches if he is only 118g he does sound under weight. My 7month dragon weighs 350g.

Whats the dragons physical apperance? Can you see ribs, spine, hip bones etc? Could you possibly post a picture?

The sudden disinterest in food would be a big concern too. Could you discuss your husbandry:

- tank size?
- how is it heated?
- What are the basking temps?
- What type of thermometer are you using?
- What brand of UVB are you using? How old is it?
- What supplements are you using?
- Whats the diet consist of?
- How has the appetite been up until now?
- How long have you had the dragon?
