Hi Doug, it's great to see those neonate Mu's getting off to a good start. I would like to work with Mu's sometime...would you care to share how you get these reportedly confirmed snake eaters to take pinkys? Will they do well on a diet of rodents only? Thank you, Vic

Hey Vic,

No big tricks really. The Mussuranas available in the pet trade are more opportunistic than most people think and usually take to rodents rather quickly. My experience has been that out of a clutch of babies, a few will take rodents right away. A few will need scented rodents and a few will demand several reptile meals before eventually accepting rodents.

Mine eat almost entirely rodents with the occasional chicken wing and the much more rare snake meal.

That being said, mussies will always take to a snake meal much more vigorously than a rodent meal.

I'd never seen those on a pricelist but after reading about the herpetofauna of S. America, I've wanted them for a long time. Amazing snakes.

There's a few breeders working with them now so if you keep your eyes pealed for them in a few months you'll start seeing some for sale.
