Hissers

I want to start a small Hisser colony for my BD, I just bought 10 at $2.00 each. As soon as I got home with them one was already dead, the other 8 are doing fine, and my BD quickly dispatched with the 1 I placed in her cage.

My question is is $2 each, a resonable price? I've looked around and that does seem within its pricing range. Just seems expenisve to me.

Anyone know of a supplier of hisser with a good price and near (within 30 miles) of LA, CA. So that I can pick some up and avoid shipping charges.

What is a good number to start a colony with? I don't really want hundrends, just enough to produce for my DB, and keep me from having to to buy more all the time.

I have them in my BD's baby tank, a 20-gal aquaium with heavy screen top, I'm not using the vasoline thing, but may in the future depend on colony growth.

If anyone can share they experience with raising hissers for a BD that would be great. Thanks.

Also, herpfood.com has them for $19.99 for 20. It's not hard to start a breeding colony, but make sure you put a thick layer of vaseline along the top of your container as the babies can climb out through the mesh. If you don't feed you bearded dragons the roaches until they're established, that should be enough to start a colony.
