temps question and pic

from9rto1k Feb 02, 2009 06:21 PM

i got a animal plastics cage..one end is 88 degrees right now of belly heat and the other end has a heat pad under it gettin to 104 degrees...my boa im 99 percent is gravid and spends all her time on the hotter side of the cage now...i checked her temps and shes holding at 88 degrees...should i lower the 104 side down? if i lower it seeing shes stays right on it and stays 88 degrees will it make her temps drop too?

and other question is do boas do this when they are gravid? i know all boas do different stuff to get comfy but anyone else have there sitting like this?from her tail up 2/3 of body is gettin fatter again now too after her post ov shed

or upside down. They should maintain around 88 when gravid but sometimes need to get off of it for short times. I would give her more like 84 ambient and maybe 95-100 hot spot. It will just give her some choice. She can still maintain her temps as long as she has that hot spot and will move on and off as needed. They will heat up and then move off and hold it for a while but, can always go back as she likes. Hope that helps and good luck with her. I think you are gonna see babies but you don't want to over bake them. LOL

Your boa is heat camping. She is not going to stay on the heat if it is hurting her and I don't believe that the developing babies will feel temperature anywhere near that 104. In Rich Ihle's and VPIs video I believe Rich stated that he gets a hot spot read temp of 104 too.
