New FLRT arrives!! (D/U)

danktat Feb 03, 2009 10:52 AM

Well, the new Florida Red Tails male arrived this morning. He looks pretty good for having such a long trip. His body temp was a little cold but I think the heat pack was burning a little cold. The following pix will show more....
.

.
temp inside box

.
sorry, the camera focused on the bag instead of the snake

.
color looks good already

.
Body temp just under 70°

.
Stretched out with hook as a size reference

.
head shot (slight piece of stuck shed)

.
In a tempory cage with paper towels sprayed with nix solution. I have taken to treating for mites as soon as an animal comes in the door. Nix is one of the safer methods and is pretty effective if you use white paper towels to let you see if any dead mites fall off. (an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure)

.
The temp gun right next to the heat pack. I would say it is burning cold. This is why shipping in "extreme" weather is not recommended. You never know what can happen. I have had heat packs burn over 100° for over 40 hours. This one doesn't seem to be even very warm to the touch.

.
Just a note....heat packs burning cold has nothing to do with the shipper. Every precaution was taken by Eliot Stone to get this animal to me safely. Luckily it wasn't colder here (it is February in PA).
.
Thanks Eliot for such a great animal. And thanks every one for looking.

Seems to be settling in pretty well. Body temp is back to "normal". Alert, not overly anxious looking (given the trip). NO LITTLE BLACK DOTS ON THE WHITE PAPER TOWELS!...lol....always a good sign after a few hours in with the nix. I will put the water in in a couple of more hours. Another crappy "thru the glass cage pic" is included.

Thanks for all the responses.
