What kind please? It's friend's pet, and she claims it's an anaconda, which it doesn't look like to me.

It's a Yellow Anaconda. Different subspecies than the Green Anaconda you're probably expecting an "Anaconda" to look like.

A yellow Anaconda is a different species, not a different subspecies.
Yellow Anaconda - Eunectes notaeus
Green Anaconda - E. murinus
Dark-spotted Anaconda - E. deschauenseei
and I think there is at least one other (valid?) species.
