South Florida in late Feb/early March.

I'll be heading down to southwest Florida in late Feb/ early March. hope to sneak out for a little herping if I can keep my wife distracted for a few hours. Would it be too cold to see stuff along the canals at night at that time of the year?. Would amphiumas and sirens be at all active, or not?. Love to see and photograph some. Any opinions appreciated. I'll probably try anyway, but it would be nice to hear from somebody who has been out that time of the year. Thanks Frank.

You honestly couldn't pick a much better time to go collecting. If you know where to go and how to look you'll catch all you want...

thanks Tom, that's encouraging. Are you talking about herps in general or just amphiumas and sirens. I don't really know where to go , but hope I can figure it out. have been to florida a number of times, but mostly constrained by time or trapped in the traffic and concrete attending meetings and lusting after the canals and swamps as I drove by. this time I am going to get out, and dream of Kauffeld and walk some and get muddy, i hope.I'm a friend of Tom Weidner up in Iowa, and for us just to get a chance to see some of your stuff is a big deal.i'll chance drowning my camera Maybe I can coax the wife into swinging by your place on the way down or back. Thanks again Frank
