Calabar Burrowing Python Help!!

zeekayem Feb 04, 2009 04:08 PM

Ok, so I picked up a Calabar Burrowing Python from the local pet store about 5 days ago..he's really cool I like it alot...I've noticed though that there is not alot of information on them at all...So I've got a few questions...

What is the best substrate for them?? What temperature gradient should I use..Also I've noticed that they are called "Calabar Burrowing Python" and, "Calabar Sand Boa." Why are they classified in both classes?? Also do these things ever bite? Cuz he seems extremely tame & very very friendly. Also very slow but I was just curious if they ever get aggressive, and bite? And do the bites hurt?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I've never heard of one bitiing. Substrate should be about 3-4" of mulch, but not too damp. There isn't a lot of info on them, but they are available for sale quite a bit on these classifieds. They are seldom bred. They used to be in the python group, then some people decided they were a sand boa. Theuy lay eggs, which to me puts them in the python bunch.

I do know they are most often found in the rainy season in tree roots.

Ok..I've offered food to him twice already & he won't take it! 2 pinkies, I brained one & he won't have anything to do with it.
