any colubrid is like from 15 to 25 years depending on alot of things......food,breeding and environment matter alot......
fat overbred caged snakes die faster yet they may have it so easy they live the 25 years.....

averages can vary alot

.........you wouldn't believe the average for some things.....

......rabbit and squirrels....one is like 3 and one is 4 months......I forget which is which...but figure...it's average...due to the fact that alot don't make it to even being weaned......they are eaten...LOL

I know .average life and life expectency or longevity is different......rabbits and squirrels can live for a few years or so........

.......birds ?.....I know black vultures can live to be 75.....

yet some mice species die in like 4 months.....some at the first breeding(males)....they work so hard it kills them.....rumor is north american opossum males usually die at 10 months of age when they breed for first time too........wow......

......25 years is alot......I lost 2 corns this year from brumation so far........the one was under 10...maybe 7...??? and the one today I checked was 3 1/2?.........(water them and check them during brumation.....)(I didn't check.....)...

Ouch! I don't have the guts to brumate because it just feels too damn cold. My cool side during winter stays around 70 degrees and they definitely slow down a bit. I wonder if this will lower their life expectancy? Like i said, I haven't been at it long enough to try it, however I am almost done finishing my basement, complete with a snake room, which I will have more temperature control and might eventually have the stones to cool them

ratsnake in your basement.....
eats once a week at least
eats without using any energy
moves very little
has all the heat it needs (usually)
we cool them for 8 weeks after let's say 3 weeks without food then after a week of being warmed feed them again...making a total of three months with no food....and water while brumating!

...wild ratsnake.....eats three times a week but it is just birds during the nesting season...then eats let's say once a week on baby rabbits, squirrels, birds, mice ,chipmunks, and rats etc etc......so once a week for the summer for the most part...lucky ratsnake......gets too hot it estevates for a few weeks......then eats a few times and stops in ? late September....then it goes underground far enough ...to be the 53 degree average.....for winter.....so it didn't eat from September till it catches birds again in ? April let's say....blacks come up from March on around here depending on weather...but they don't get much if anything in March to eat...too cold too....

so it eats total?.....4 months of good eating a year...(2 spring and 2 fall)...not the 9 months in our homes........

.see......that's why they get fat.....
