correct me if I'm wrong.... H.R. 669

amiemac9 Feb 05, 2009 06:09 AM

Alright, maybe it's just me reading it wrong. But does this also affect people with tropical and marine fish? I noticed that the bill (section 14: Definitions) states: "does not include any cat...cattle....goldfish (Carassius auratus arautus)..."

According to the way I read this, goldfish would be the only fish allowed???

Is that parrots seem to be OK and here in Miami & the rest of
the state of Florida more phone & electrical pole damage has
been done by parrots than all of the issues related to boas &
pythons multiplied exponentially.

The issues that may be valid for the island of Guam do not seem
so valid for the mainland USA.

However the issue is only an issue because they are snakes and most people hate snakes. I remember very well when I lived in Tampa we had those pesky Quaker parrots build a 4'round nest on the electric pole in my neighbors back yard, the nest caught fire and the flemes spread to their roof which burnt 1/3 of the house down.

Funny how the green anole (chameleon) never got any air time when the more aggressive brown anole was introduced some forty plus years ago. I remember as a child the greens were everywere and by my teen years you hardly saw them anymore.

Ducks who basically own the canals and waterways now.

Pigs & normandy rats were introduced as well, and we all know
the story about how Marine Toads were introduced to help the
sugarcane farmers.

It's annoying as hell. I'm afraid to get my FL license now.

The Nile perch that Florida fish and game introduced in the 70's and 80's that fish decimated the laregemouth bass population.

Don't even talk to me about the idea todrain the everglades and ruining the aquafer, all for an airport.

Certainly frustrating, but there is one good thing about it all as ugly as those muscovey ducks are the taste darn good!

They intend to make reading things of this nature so painfully vague and confusing, that lawmakers just give in unless they are encouraged by the voters to do what they were elected for.

To the other point we the responsible keepers have to step up and educate ourselves and the people we choose to do business with aout how we should dispose of unwanted pets. that is the fix to the problem period.

I am admittedly pretty ignorant in this area, but it seems like it would help if there was a large unified exotic animal adoption organization to take care of unwanted pets. I know there are countless small rescues all over the country, but are they connected at all? It seems to me that if there was one large reliable source that could take unwanted pets, or at least an organization that could link the many smaller ones together, it would be a much stronger point on our side...

Are there any things like what im talking about? I know that it would be hard to create something like this as its not exactly profitable, but if regulations are really getting to this point then it seems like something that should be given good consideration.

This is one aspect I have not heard mentioned before. This sounds
like an area that is worth concentrating on seriously and addressing
it at some point in the near future.
Possibly USARK could start this type of networking.

Right now I believe we have to concentrate on defeating HR669
We all need to contact our U.S. Senators and Congressional
Representatives from our own Districts at the very least.
