Bamboo decoration

Upscale Feb 05, 2009 09:01 AM

I added a little bamboo forest to my cage. I found the bamboo on a pile of stuff that was being thrown away, yard clippings.
I stuffed the hollow ends with expanding foam so no mouse, snake head or bugs could get inside. I sanded them lightly and sprayed them with some clear enamel. I cut them all to be exactly one inch shorter than the inside of the cage.

I suspended each one from a board like a wind chime so they are not attached at the bottom. They hang all the way to the substrate so they look like they are growing out of the floor. A snake can’t get tangled up in them, because they easily move if I need to pull a snake out of them.

Here’s what it looks like in the cage. The substrate is pine bark nuggets under the bamboo.

Makes a nice decoration for the cage.

Can’t beat the price!

Thanks for looking.

Nice. I also must commend you for the venemous tag on the cage. I have always felt that properly identifing venemous was mostly over looked in the private sector. I know several venemous keepers that don't mark their hot stuff and have the attitude that I'm the only one who works them and I know they are venemous. This is dangerous and ignorant and asking for trouble. anyways i know this was a little off the topic of cage design but just wanted to publicly say god job on your respectfullness

Thanks. You really notice the details. I am a little fanatical about following the rules, I always try to exceed the requirements. You should see my bite protocol notebook!
The tags I use are loosely attached to the locks, so you can’t remove them without taking off the lock first. I can quickly see if a cage is unlocked by seeing a tag missing.

One side of the tag, as pictured has
DANGER
venomous snake
Do not open cage
See details on reverse of this slip

On the back, which you can’t see in the picture, it says,
Warning
do not open cage
Contents of cage:
Common name
Scientific name
Additional information in Bite Protocol Notebook
Danger Venomous Snake

My bite Protocol Notebook is right on top of the cage and has the contact numbers to venom one, emergency numbers, bite protocol for each snake, anaphylaxis notes, care sheets, identifying pictures, my permit, critical incident plan, receipts for the snakes with the sources of my animals, etc. It is semi-impressive.

Here’s a couple of pictures of the same sort of tags I use on my transport boxes too.

I’m responding because this is more important than a bunch of sticks!

Nice tag. Artistic AND cautious!

Now that's a cool idea. I like it.

Look who’s checking out his new bamboo forest!

If you’re a snake nut, you must own one of these before you die.

Hopefully for a long time before…

You are one creative bugger, aren't you? Neat ideas.

BTW, your foam project above has inspired me to start on some fake rock work myself. I've got the foam, I've got the paint. Don't know about artistic expression, but I will press on nevertheless.
