JUST A DUSKY PYGMY BUT........

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Feb 05, 2009 02:43 PM

I'm really happy to have just aquired this unbelievable Dusky Pygmy. He's a young male and the pics don't do him justice. Needless to say I'm a happy camper...

Looks really cool.

Is that a genetic stripe? Simple recessive gene?

It is a genetic stripe but I'm not sure if it's a simple reccessive or co-dom...

That's really a good looking rattlesnake any way you look at it. Very cool. I always liked the solid black Timbers, this full stripe is another very unique pattern for a rattler. I think it's downright cute!

We already have pretty snakes so stop painting stripes on yours.

Hey Tom, The rumors from the european breeders are that striped X het. breedings are producing MUCH MORE COLORFUL babies than the stripe X stripe breedings (they claim they come out dull/bland looking). I don't know if there is any truth to that statement or not...Just FYI.

Being a Florida guy, you need to find an anery pig to breed him too. I heard that every now and then up in the ANF/panhandle area that people come across anerytheristic duskies... Also, Glades has a pic of a Hypo dusky in their photo gallery- that would be an uber cool cross too...

Jon Z. and I should have some baby stripes this year...the het female is already showing signs she's gravid...the stripe male also bred a couple of hyde co. girls(fingers crossed)....i am going to be looking for an anery female this spring in ANF....i brought home an extremly dark female from oceola last fall, maybe get her bred this spring, as she's been in quaritine for about 6 months now...if not, she should definitly breed next fall... the stripe seems to lighten the appearance of the pigmies, so i'm interested in seeing what happens when this dark female is introduced into the mix... she may be better suited for crossing with a hypo, but i wanna breed her to the stripe at least once...

about the hypo Glades has pics of... is it in a breeding program?

i have a friend that recently sold his hypo to a buddy of his...i had told him i wanted it, but he said the guy had another one and was gonna try and breed em...luckily, i was told i'd be one of the first in line for babies....

That is an awesome looking snake. Kind of looks like a mini culminatus!

You are, of course, gonna find him a girlfriend..
Just a Pygmy indeed. Excuse me, I gotta go attach my jaw, I left it on the floor!
