heat lamp

iluvblackfrancis May 24, 2003 01:00 PM

can someone offer any advice on what kind of light to use in a heat lamp? like, what color is ok to leave on 24/7, red? and what wattage for a 20L? i usually use UTH but i only have a few bucks, and i already have the lamp, just need a bulb.

I just set up my 20L tank and I have a 75 watt basking light over my tank. It keeps the one side of the tank around 88 degrees and the side away from the bulb is about 82 degrees so they can get away from the heat if they get to hot or vice versa. At night, when the heat bulbs kick off, I have them on a timer, I have a blue bulb that I leave on so I can see them, and it doesn't give off any heat so it allows them to cool down at night, to between 75-80 degrees which they should be at in the night. Hope this helped.
