The "true" yellow pectinatas generally are smaller than pectinatas found in other areas of Mexico. True yellow pectinatas do not stay green very long. They turn brown within the first 4 to 6 months then yellow up as they get older sometimes taking 1 to 3 years. The Florida pectinatas usually stay green for up to two or three years, then either become black or gray with varying amounts of white or yellow usually on their mid to lower bodys and tail.
