The most info I've seen printed about them is in Schulz's Monograph of Elaphe book. There might be a husbandry article out there or two.
thanks, but i don't have that book.
have yet to find anything useful on the internet as yet

Search for Gonyosoma prasinum or Elaphe prasina. I agree with Dusty about Shulz's Monograph - you should try to get a copy if you are going to keep such uncommon and expensive ratsnakes...

am trying to get a copy, but it is out of print.
i looked up the scientific names on the net before posting this thread, there are some nice pictures but very little info.
thanks anyway for the constructive comments!
was hoping to hear from some breeders who have had some actual hands on experience.

ECO might have it - that's where I got mine.
Randy Whittington keeps some prasina.

A 'friend' of mine was recently told that he bought the last two copies from ECO. LOL
It is out-of-print in the U.S. and probably elsewhere, but I know someone who has an extra copy that's still in the shrink-wrap. The book seems to be somewhat more available in Europe too?
I applaud you seeking out other keepers' advice. A problem I can see with learning someone else's "recipe" is that you don't learn the ecological reasons and theories behind it, and depending on geographic location and caging differences, recipes need to be altered. Natural history learned will give you the basic "chemistry set" to create a suitable enclosure and living conditions for your snakes. That's why that book and other scientific articles will give someone the tools they need to succeed in the long term. Not trying to sound preachy -- just hope that helps. I've learned that rule is especially true for exotic, rarely kept species -- that is, get all the literature that you can get your hands on, however rare or out-of-print -- and do THAT *BEFORE* you look at web site care sheets and pet shop-style hobbyist books.

The book mentioned definatly has the best info on the species. I would try to get your hands on one if you can. Check with Larry at Maryland Reptile Farm. You can find his website on the event section under VA shows. He usually has that book.
Until you can get that book, their basic care is much like porphyraceus or mandarins except they can benefit from a more arboreal set up.
I've found them to be a hardy species but shy.

I think it was Schulz that had a great web site with lots of info on prasina and many other asians but that was years ago. I haven't seen the site in years.
Does anyone remember Schulz having a website about 10 years ago?

Yeah, I remember that one. Something with "bushmaster" in it, right? The site is gone, haven't heard of anything coming from K.D. Schulz ever since.
