What's with the silkies?

skmcwilliams Feb 07, 2009 12:04 PM

I guess I am confused. You get silkies by breeding two smoothie/leatherbacks together and a percentage will be silkies. I know smoothies/leatherbacks have been around for quite a while so why are silkies just now showing up? What does everything think will be the future for silkies? Will they make interesting morphs when combined with others like trans, hypos, reds, etc. Just wondering what opinions are?

I think there were only a couple of lines of smooth/leatherback dragons and the needed to be outcrossed before merging the lines again. Just a guess. I think there's been a few lurking, just no for the general public.

Hi there are silks already for a couple years now but you see them now more becouse more people breed with the genetic.

why they show up later then the leather is i think becouse the first leathers showed up on the marked where resecive type.
the leathers that produce silks are from the co-dominant type and where some later proven to be co-dominant.

I think their will be Translucent Silkies. You can to my web site and view a pic of a Female Translucent Smoothe that I will be breeding a Hypo Leather Back to.

Thanks
