BRBs in a rack system?

Danne Feb 08, 2009 10:48 AM

My friends and I went house-hunting yesterday and have narrowed it down to 2 potential houses, there are enough of us so that we can afford a pretty big house and each have our own room next semester. So of course I've been constantly thinking of how I'm going to fill my room with snakes next year

Anyways I'm wondering what you guys think of making a rack for BRBs? My dad is pretty crafty and I think we could pull it off this summer, I'm just wondering a proper size. Are Iris CB110's too small? They're 19 x 38 wide I believe.

I have several of my BRB's in CB110 tubs in a pair of 10 high racks I got from Animal Plastics. IMO they are fine for small to normal size BRB's. The larger ones IMO need a bit more space. Also I would NOT recommend them for breeding. I think that actual cages with doors work better for breeding as you'll be checking on them repeatedly and only they should make the earth move if ya get my drift!!

I also made some before from Melamine but found they would swell and make the drawers sticky from the high humidity. A larger gap may have fixed that.

LOL, to many snakes to list, last count:
26.49 BRB
20.21 BCI
And those are only the breeders

I have the same problem with my melamine racks. They have swelled a little bit over time and it makes sliding boxes in and out tough.

Thanks for the input guys, sounds great. I plan on getting the ones with the lids and keeping them on so maybe that will help with the humidity and the swelling of the rack. It's also going to be our first rack so that will make me feel better about the security of it, too. I should also have a few actual cages, I've been looking into a pair of white lipped pythons and they won't fit in racks forever too. I'll let you know how it goes!
