Health problems post egg laying

kaydee Feb 08, 2009 02:56 PM

Hello,

Last weekend I had a female drop 18 eggs and for a day or two I waited for her to drop some more as she looked like she still had a few left by the base of her tail, however none appeared.

On Tuesday I took her to the vet to be checked over, he like me assumed she was egg bound and kept her in over night to give her some injections to bring on the remaining eggs. Come morning there were no eggs.

He then took an x-ray which to our surprise didn't show any eggs causing any sort of blockage, however over to one side did show what looked like one burst very flat egg.

He called me to take the snake home, advised me that as he didn't see any eggs causing a blockage that it was probably just swelling and constipation (she was eating twice a week right up untill she laid).

I've had her home since Wednesday, bathed her daily and still she hasn't passed a thing, so I am very worried!

I am going to call the vet tomorrow, but any help you guys could give would be great!

Very. From what I gather he's the best exotics vet in NI. I even seen the X-RAY myself and there where no eggs apart from the flat burst one which was over to the side so couldn't be causing the blockage. I'm thinking maybe the burst egg has caused imflamation? He did give her an anti-inflamatory injection last week, but I really think she needs anti-biotics or something that's going to do something for her! I'm waiting on a call from him...
