Feeding my Kingsnake wild anoles

dunnboyfl Feb 09, 2009 09:09 AM

I am new to the Kingsnake world. Would there be any problems if I wanted to feed my Kingsnake wild caught anoles? They are everywhere around my house.

I'm no expert by a long shot, however I've heard and would definitely assume that feeding your snake wild animals of any kind would be bad, due to the possibility for disease and other such anomalies that truthfully cannot be accounted for when dealing with wild animals. When you buy from a breeder you have a sense of safeness in knowing that there's a relatively small chance for disease or anything harmful coming from it.

Again, I'm no expert, but I'm sure that some of those who are more educated in the area can back me up on this.

But you will probably introduce parasites to your snake by feeding him wild lizards. I raised a kings from under a foot to 3 feet in 6 months by feeding him on just anoles. He never had any health problems after than and always maintained good weight. Your snake will most likely be fine with being fed anoles, but there is the risk of parasites.

if you want to feed whats free, then i would catch the little boogers and freeze them. For at least 30 days and then most of any risk should be destroyed. im sure their is still somewhat of a risk of parasites but most should be destroyed in the freezing process.
