Leucistic in leopard geckos was originally thought to take form in the Murphy's Patternless morph.(some people still think so). And sometimes they are sold as such.

Blizzards are just another strain(if you will) of patternless....a different kind of patternless. And the presence of "Paradox Spots" combined with blue pigment around the eyes, and yellow pigment on the body rule it out as a "true leucistic. So as of right now, there is no such thing as a true leucistic.

Blazing Blizzards are the result of a leopard gecko displaying both the traits displayed in "albino" geckos and "blizzard" geckos.
Essentially an Albino X Blizzard.....although obviously the geckos would have to be het for either/both albino and blizzard respectively.

Combining a regular blizzard X albino (both not het for anything) will just produce all "normal" offspring 100% het for both albino and blizzard (double hets).

You can expect to get a few blazing blizzards as the result of breeding the following:

1. Blizzard het for albino X albino

2. Blizzard X albino het for blizzard

3. Gecko Double het for albino and blizzard X albino

4. Gecko Double het for albino and blizzard X blizzard

5. Gecko Double het for albino and blizzard X albino het for blizzard

6. Gecko Double het for albino and blizzard X blizzard het for albino =

7. Gecko Double het for albino and blizzard X gecko double het for albino and blizzard = 1/16 chance at producing a Blazing Blizzard

8. Blazing Blizzard X Blazing Blizzard = All Blazing Blizzards

*The albinos must be of the same strain/type too(Bell, Tremper, Rainwater)

Yes, neither Blizzards or Murphy Patternless are true Leucistics. The Murphy Patternless was first produced in 1991. Who knows why it was thought to be Leucistic is beyond me, but they were refered to as Leucistics until the Blizzards were produced in 1995. Even though not a true Leucistic as well, they look more like a Leucistic then the Murphy Patternless. Once the Blizzards came out, what was first called a Leucistic was changed to Murphy Patternless(aka Patternless). I've also seen some out there selling Blizzards as Leucistics as well as the Murphy Patternless. Probably just to confuse all of us.

Also, being that a Blazzing Blizzard is double homozygous for two different recessive traits(Blizzard & Albino) both parents will have to carry both traits either as homozygous, heterozygous, or a combination of the two. Sorry breeding outcomes 1 through 4 will not produce a Blazzing Blizzard in the first generation.

1)Blizzard het Albino X Albino= 1/2 Albino het Blizzard, 1/2 double hets

2)Blizzard X Albino het Blizzard= 1/2 Blizzard het Albino, 1/2 double hets

3)DH Albino Blizzard X Albino= 1/2 Albino, 1/2 het Albino. All offspring 50% possible het Blizzard.

4)DH Albino Blizzard X Blizzard= 1/2 Blizzard, 1/2 het Blizzard. All offspring 50% possible het Albino

....your right!

I knew trying to do double recessive punnet squares in my head was a bad idea. Great catch.

Try doing triple recessives in your head some day. Talk about a major headache. LOL.

I have enough trouble with triple recessives on paper LOL!
