I don't know what you would have to remove from a wine cooler for conversion into an incubator, but

-the heat tape is generally applied along the back wall

-small PC fans are sometimes used to distribute the heat evenly throughout the incubator

-20 ounce bottles filled with water are used to add thermal mass to reduce the time it takes the incubator to warm back up after you open it

-I generally place my thermostat probe into my middle tub, this gives me a rough average of the temperatures throughout the incubator. I also check all of the tubs with a laser temp gun. My favorite incubator is made out of a big Igloo cooler and I have it set up so that there is only about 0.1 degree difference between one side of the cooler and the other.

I did post instructions along with pics last season for this, but it seems to have been moved, or pulled because I can no longer find the post. If I get a chance to dig around in my old PC I will re-post the tutorial (hopefully, this time the information won't be pulled).

There are a ton of post on here on this topic. If you search my name you will find all you need to know with pics.

Good luck,

I turned a college frig into a incubator and used a helix to measre inside temps. I got my first clutch of eggs today (7) and I have them setup on vermiculite and internal incubation temps of 88.

Now my question is should the inside of the incubator be 88 and the temps of the eggs less( tonight thy actually measured 85/86 (eggs) or should i have the temp probe of the helix in the box with my eggs and that temp set to 88? I have not done this because I was afraid the interior space of the incubator would be cooking 90-95% or more.

Thoughts?

Russ
