Are ivory worth it ?

Watever Feb 10, 2009 09:17 AM

Ivory are nice, a dirty white snake with a nice yellow stripe is beautiful.

But is it worth it to have in your collection for other cross ?

What are the design morph we can do with them ?

Pastel ivory are nothing spectacular, and I don't see any other cross with them doing something special.

Yellowbelly do make other morph look better. So I can see the use of an ivory to make yellowbelly morph, but even there, they are not that special.

So are ivory only for the look and superstripe ? No other combination of the morph ?

Or am I missing awesome cross out there ?

when crossed with the "scepter" you can make the "superstripe".
if you have a pastel ivory you can make the pastel superstripe.
then with the superstripe i would cross to a yellowbelly spider to try and make sometype of spider superstripe...

just a thought.... =)
i think its possible, correct me if im wrong or i might just be thinking too ahead of myself...haha

I have some citrus pastel YB's that are just gorgeous. The citrus pastel is Amir's line of pastel. Some pastel Ivories are nice too. Who knows what YB crosses are still out there. I'm keeping every YB and Ivory I hatch, even the normal females from YB clutches.

Also adult Ivories are whiter than you might have given them credit for.

Thanks Mike

I like Pastel Yellowbellies so much that I'm producing more of those this year than Ivories...

I think there are other interactions that we just haven't found like the interaction between spector and yellowbelly to make the superstripe. The potential with yellowbellies is still pretty undiscovered IMO.

And honestly I think they make one of the best "lucies" in the business. If you have an adult Ivory at a show you'd be surprised how many people comment on how cool a snake that is.

It would be hard to pry an ivory female out of my hands come August

how does a yellowbelly/ivory make a lucy??? I thought that only mojaves, lessers, fires and butters made lucies?????

jpman78 Feb 15, 2009 06:58 AM

I put air quotes around the word lucy meaning I use the term loosely for ivories. Really I think that a lucy ball python by how it's currently defined is pretty variable.

Fires make lucies but they have yellow spots on them?
Mojaves make lucies but they have a dark grey head and a stripe?

All of which are very cool in their own right. I'm a fan....but why is an ivory excluded from the bunch?

In my opinion if you sat adult examples of a super fire, a super mojave, and an ivory all next to one another the average person would have no idea why 2 were lucies but the ivory wasn't...they might even argue the ivory was the only lucy on the table.

Food for thought

Patel ivories are unreal in person, I don't know what you're talking about.

Hey if i'm not wrong i think that you have to use Yellowbelly to make The Inferno.

The super form of any co-dom has it's value. Whether it's worth it to you depends solely on what you like, what you are working with and how much value you place on the projects that it can be used in. I enjoy working with YBs and have a variety of YB projects going -- my ivory will fit in very nicely to my plans and was worth every penny spent and more.
