Help with post brumation sheds!

bandyman Feb 10, 2009 02:46 PM

Hi every one go easy with me its my first post!

I have been breeding variable kings, pueblan milks and cali kings for the past 5 years.

I have always brumated them for 3 months including a 2 week cool down period and a 2 week warm up period.

In previous years all my snakes have come out of brumation and normally have a good 2 months feeding period and then start to get the first signs of the females going in to shed ready for breeding.
I found it dosnt really matter if the males shed early or not, they are still strong breeders.

This year everything is the same and havnt changed anything, my hibination techniques are the same as previous years but my snakes are going into a shed phase after only 1 feed.

How will this affect the breeding?

Do i wait for the second shed or attempt to mate the females after this first shed which is only 3 weeks after coming out of brumation and only having 1 feed?

Hope you can help me!

Hi and welcome!

You can try to breed them after the first shed and you may have success, then bump up feeding a bit to add some weight prior to egg laying.. If they do not lock up then you can try again after the second shed.

Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress,

Agree with Mike, put 'em together but watch, try again later if not successful. Feed, feed, feed!
