I think a wild captured Manouria could have Malaria,an infectious disease caused by various protozoans (Plasmodium)that are transmitted to man by the bite of an infected mosquito. This would be "in Situ" or within the natural environment of Manouria.I see masquitos all over the head area of my Mt.Tortoises in the summer here in Florida. So,I guess if a wild Manouria carrier bittin by a mosquito in Fl. that bit someone who was around them (the carrier mt. tort.) all the time, could be infected. So if you go to Asia or my house put on some Masquito repelent.I've been around them for 21 years and hav'nt got malaria yet.The biggest danger the tortoises have caused so far is when someone trimming the tree limbs around the main power line to my house with a chainsaw on a pole, tripped over a under foot mt.tortoises! He was OK but shook up,the tort was fine and my heart skipped a couple of beats.LOOK OUT these things are dangerous! Vic morgan.........pic " Minnows in my pond eat the masquito's larva, no thanks on the bug spray."
