Irian Jaya in comparrison to Ball Python

mbm95 Feb 10, 2009 07:09 PM

Hey guys. Anthony Carponetto's website said that an average IJ is about the same in weight as a ball python. I don't understand how this is because they are about the same length and a ball is much thicker. How is this so? How thick exactly is an average male IJ anyway? Thanks for your answers!

Balls are actually thicker and IJ are actually longer than the average ball. Mine here are babies, but I am quite sure someone can share a pic of an adult IJ.

IJs are roughly the same size of every other carpet python. There are 4 foot adults and 7 foot adults. I have several adults and maybe 1 is comparable to a ball python, the rest are much much larger.

....if you're looking for a small python, I would not consider the average IJ a small python. They're medium sized. They're going to probably average 5-6 foot long.

Alright, thanks. I am purchasing from Will Leary (who has been a huge pleasure to work with and has been very helpful, not to mention has a beautiful sire IJ). His male is about five feet, and strangley, his dam is only about four. I want a larger than four foot snake, so is there any way to accurately predict how big the offspring will be? And do any of ya'll have a picture of a full-grown male? That will be very helpful. Thanks for your help!

Food, Lots, but don't make them obese either!

If your working with will leary your pretty much covered, Only suggestion if you don't want a smaller snake, check out jungles, coastals, or bredli's!

Im a firm believer that a carpet python is a way better beginner snake than a ball python and just in general is way better to look at, play with, there active, they don't just ball up when you go to take them out.

Forgot to mention I am not calling IJ's small as like say pygmy small but they are the smallest spilota you can get.
