substrate question - gauze - false bottom

iso Sep 10, 2003 04:53 PM

I see that many suggest a layer of gauze between the screen that covers the eggcrate and the first layer of substrate.

Anybody have anything they swear by?

Would tack cloth - that stuff that comes from home depot - work? I belive it has no chemicals or anything...refered to as : surgical grade bleached gauze

let me know. And many many thanks.

I normally just use fiberglass screening (the screen door replacement kit stuff) that can easily be purchased at Home Depot and the like. I use about an inch PVC spacers, egg crate, screen, and then my nomal dirt mix (www.yeagersfrogs.com for the receipe) which I make thicker with more orchid bark to allow for more drainage with false bottoms.
Best,
Justin
