Possible RETF problem?

Red-Eye-Ray Sep 10, 2003 04:59 PM

I currently have seven RETF's in an 85 gal tall aquarium.. I noticed this morning that one of them has what looks like a bruise on it's long finger on a foreleg, and a small finger on a hind leg. I thought that maybe he had gotten into a tussle with another frog during the night. I am still monitoring it, but have yet to see any sort of altercation with any of the frogs for as long as I've owned them. I just noticed though, that during feeding time, he had the same mark, though small, on his leg.. It looks like it still could be a bruise type of park, but it also looks as if it could be a rash of some sort. Sort of purplish-red and splotchy.

The frog is acting fine, as if nothing is wrong.. Do you think I should take some sort of action with the frog, or should I just monitor it? Could this be from some epic frog fight, or something else? I'm using bed a beast as the substrate, and have had no probs with it before. Any help is immensely appreciated.

Thanks

Ray

I'd say, at the least, remove the questionable frog and put it in a quarintine tank right away. That way if it is something bad it won't be passed to your entire community of frogs. I've found with my Red-Eyes that when they bruise (from jumping inside their holding container when I clean their tank) it's a off-shade green skin discoloration that stands out against their normal coloration that fades in a day or two at most. That's my experience with them bruising anyway. Maybe someone else has had different exp. I'm not going to venture a guess as to your frogs markings. Hopefully someone recognizes them and posts. But, as I said, remove the questionable frog for quarintine for the safety of your community. If your really worried though, take it to a qualified vet.
Best of luck to you.
