Safely shipping snakes?!

rdm01 Feb 11, 2009 11:13 AM

Hey gang!

I may have to move 5000 miles away from my current location and may need to ship my python via overnight airfare...

Any suggestions on Courier companies?

Also, what is the safest way to package the snake? Cloth bag in a padded box with newspaper kinda thing?

Also, how can i make sure the snake is properly heated during the overnight delivery?

Thanks everyone!

same methods used in shipping snakes sold to new owners will work here.

Insulated box (lined with styrofoam or that solid foam insulation sheets). Snake will need to be in either a snake bag (securely knotted or tied so the snake can't get out of the bag) or a deli dish of the appropriate size. Packing foam or crumpled newspaper to fill up the rest of the space.

48 hour heat packs should be included if overnight temperatures are likely to drop below snake tolerance levels or if you are shipping via airplanes. (it gets cold at 30 000 feet)
