Doug,

This 07 Alterna was without a doubt the smallest Alterna hatching that i have ever produced.. I was sure it was not going to make it, but she proved me wrong for sure! It's first several meals was just the very tip of a mouse tail and i continued assist feeding mouse tails for several months before she finally took a pink on her own. She is doing very well now and it feeding on hoppers..

In this case persistence paid off!

Nice alterna, glad to hear it came around well!

Anyways, have you tried "pinkie parts"?

I had a few problem hognose last year and for the first month or so I assist fed them pinkie hams..the upper portion of the rear leg. Before long, they were eating on their own. Haven't had to try it with kings or milks yet, thankfully.

Yep, that's what I'm using with that Black King in that photo.

Is she taking the mouse tails or are you "slipping" them down?

why not try using a pair of cuticle scissors and cutting a swatch of skin from the anole and pasting it on the pinky head? You may get a good response with this more extreme form of manipulative scenting.

I've tryed that too but ill give it another shot.Maybe ill try that trick with a real live anole in the cage to get the pyro in the feed mode then bait and switch.

Another trick is to set up a small colony of lizards in you r room. I have found that just the smell of them nearby gets the finicky ones wanting to eat.

I reverted to splitting newborns lengthwise to feed 2 REEEEEEALLY small thayeri last year. After 2 meals of those and a few pinky heads they were able to take on newborns. 15 meals later they are on fuzzies.
