Red Ackie Questions..

calientedragons Feb 11, 2009 07:46 PM

Hoping someone can give me some insight on this..

I have 2 trio's or Red Ackies that are at breeding age, I have seen some "messing around" and i want to keep a close watch on them..

What is the gestation period? can you see/ feel eggs when close? do they go nuts scratching and pacing the cage?

Anyone know of some good care sheets or books on Ackie Monitors, I have had trouble finding detailed information on these guys..

Thanks for your help,

Heidi

You will see them mate for 3-5 days off and on and then stop cold turkey when they are done. The mock mating thing young ones do is nothing.

Gestation is about 3 weeks from mating to depositing eggs.

They don't scratch around. That comment makes me ask about your cage. They should be on a deep layer of dirt that they can tunnel into at all times, and not a fishtank with a little decorative sand etc.

You'll see a very fat female one day and a thinner female covered in dirt the next. That's when it's time to go digging for eggs.
