Rankin's babies growth rate

matthewkot Feb 11, 2009 10:17 PM

A quick question about Rankins Dragons. I recently hatched two babies from a clutch of 12 eggs laid. Only two were fertile.

My question is about the growth of the babies. I've raised lots of beardeds and the rankins seems to be much more slow growing than baby beardeds. They eat a lot and don't seem to grow nearly as fast as beardeds.

Does anyone have any commentary about this?

Matt

The problem with rankins is that the gene pool is very small. In order to keep them going, you have to constantly buy new stock. I used to breed them like crazy in the past, but gave up because my production went way down after a few generations. They should grow and mature very quickly like vitticeps. Josh

are theses just smaller bearded dragons? What are the differences?

Rankin's or Lawson's dragons are a completely separate species of Bearded dragon. Your typical bearded dragon is an Inland Bearded dragon. There are 5 or 6 species (subspecies) of bearded dragons. Most common in captivity are the Rankins and Inland Bearded dragons.
