humidity and incubators.

edenspets Feb 11, 2009 10:49 PM

i've dealt with leo eggs and incubation, but some of the info i got on ball eggs seems to be different. after the egg box set up, is it necessary to humidify the incubator itself? or is this a step that does not need to be done because the egg boxes are for the most part self contained?

first of all, what incubator are you using?

i built one out of a wine cooler with a coil heat element ( the kind used for poultry incubation) and a Herpstat ND thermostat.

If you have the eggs in shoe boxes with the lid on you shouldnt have to worry about the incubator humidity. You will just have to monitor the humidity within those boxes.

what incubation media are you using?

i have no eggs as of yet, just gearing up in preparation. was considering going with Perlite and Vermiculite, and someone else suggested just perlite and an egg flat. not sure.
