can someone...

post a picture of a dish that you use to feed mealworms. Every dish I've tried they climb out of and I don't want to use one too tall. My geckos are less than 4 months old.

thanks,

well, what grade are you in... if you are in high school, like me, i just asked my chem teacher for a petri dish. they work great, and the mealies cant escape. just make sure that it is a new and unused one.

These are the small ones that Petco sells for $1.99. They're big enough to keep the mealworms, with only one or two escaping once in awhile but I think it's because my leo walks in the bowl and sometimes a mealie will get caught on her foot when she steps out. I also use these bowls to serve superworms sometimes, but I never let the superworms stay in the tank for long.

If you want to try using a clear bowl, you can go to a hobby store and get those plastic stackable bead containers, or buy a glass ash tray from Wal-Mart.

I use the same ones, they're just like 2 bucks... make sure they have smooth high-gloss sides on the inside so nothing can climb out. these dishes will even hold crickets w/no back legs...

I use clear glass tealight holders from Ikea. 50˘ each

royalgoldreps Sep 11, 2003 10:48 AM

Can you post a pic of them? and where they can be obtained?

I am currently using glazed dishes that are used for going under small potted plants. Work great, but are still nearly a buck.

These are the dishes I use, they are from Ikea at 50˘ each, they are actually tealight holders, they are good for water too. Unfortunately, I don't think they carry this style anymore I went on the website and saw these, which may or may not work as well, the nice thing about the ones I have is the outer edge is rounded so gocoks can climb up and perch there a little as they eat or drink

For cheap, another thing I use for food and water disheswhen in a pinch is the bottoms of small yogurt containers- cut of the top so they are the right size and they work pretty well, and assuming you eat yogurt, they are free, something ypou'd just throw away. To cut them, Ginsu knives are the best!

As long as they have high-gloss on the inside, nothing can climb out. I made my dish, and the sides don't even go straight up and down, they are slanted, and still the mealies can't climb out because it's glossed.

You have to keep the sides CLEAN though. Once powder and other things get on there they can get a claw hold.
