question about mealworms

dragonlady1954 Sep 10, 2003 06:30 PM

I am feeding mini mealworms to my baby beardies as treats and they come in little round cardboard containers that are sealed. I got some medium mealworms for my adults and I was wondering if they would survive in a plastic tupperware bowl that is sealed or if that will kill them?? I put paper and potatoes in the bowl with them.

Just pop some holes in the lid and you should be fine.

That's what I don't want to do. As small as they are they can get out of a very tiny hole. I have had them in this container for about 3 hours now with no holes and they are fine so far but will they die if I don't poke holes in the container and then I will have to worry about them getting out!If the mini mealworms survive in a sealed container, why can't the medium ones survive that way??

If you poke holes in the top of the container, and don't pack the substrate in so they can reach the top, how would they get out? They can't climb smooth plastic. It's been my experience to poke holes for air in ANY container I have live animals in.

I would poke holes in the top also. If you store them in the fridge, it will slow them down where there is not much activity from them. They will last longer that way too.

Good Luck…
