rookie question

slimforte Feb 13, 2009 01:13 AM

Hi. was walking by my snakes enclosure today and noticed it was curled in the corner of the lid where it always likes to chill. one entire loop of its body had popped out of the lid. it's a plastic container with a locking lid. the suboc has been in there for a year now and never escaped. i also kept a garter snake in a simmilar one with no problems. it looked as if it was jamming itself in so tight it just started to separate the plastic. is this something i should look to remedy or just a fluke?

thanks for your patience

You better tape it, rubberband it, put some weight on it or secure it GOOD in some way or you won't be so lucky next time. To secure snapping top containers that I keep snakes in I place something that is as big or almost as big as the entire top of the container on it. I figure how heavy I think it should be and then make sure it's twice that heavy to be sure. It's better if it's secured with even pressure all the way around because snakes have a way of finding the weak point if their determined.

If I had every snake that's ever escaped from a plastic box I thought to be "well-secured". my collection would be double! This applies to subocs in particular.
