scott pasqua Feb 13, 2009 07:17 PM

Whats up with the huge inventory of P. Pardalis AKA Cape Leopards?

Someone smuggling them in?
There are tons of them and they seem to have gotten a new name.
lol

lol

I have bred the Indians for years and always hated when the 4" so called CB(yea right) Indians came in and were(and still are) selling for $300.00 each. Who in their right mind would sell a 5 year old animal for $300?.
I have raised all of my babies with the utmost care and have never raised one to 4" that was bowling ball smooth either. lol!!!!!!!

Oh yea, CB in Europe Imports. lol AKA smuggled.

I know some of the breeders posting the P Pardalis are legit, but come on.

I think alot of the people breeding the p.pardalis have finally figured out that these need to go thru a diapause in incubating to hatch unlike the p. babcocki. Many breeders before tried to incubate the p. pardalis eggs like p. babcocki and just threw them into the incubator and expected them all to hatch but later found only a few to hatch, now with the breeders knowing how to break diapause, you are seeing alot more babies for sale and are mostly being offered by the same breeders. These breeders are also brokering some of these captive hatched babies out to wholesalers and then being resold so it looks like alot of different peolple have them for sale now..If they were being smuggled in you would see them in all different sizes... Like the smuggled indian tortoise, they came in, in the larger sizes.. just my 2 cents...

I've also seen adult pancakes "farm raised in South Africa". Anyone know something about that? Can any pancakes be collected in the wild? If not, where are the "farms" located?

My eyes were opened after I read "The Lizard King" and it is hard for me to accept ads for rare or unusual animals as farm raised or captive born. I admit that I'm not an expert and don't want to call anyone dishonest, but any "farm" that can raise tortoises to adult or near adult size and sell them for a good price would seem atypical to me.

South Africa is the "farm"

lol
