WORST bearded dragon BITE EVER.

oregonsnakes Feb 15, 2009 12:25 AM

Bearded dragons are normally very docile and relaxed. Adult males can be standoffish if approached incorrectly.

My largest translucents male translucent was purchased from Jeff Hunter. I think it may be the largest translucent in the world @ over 700 grams. I sent it to the east coast for a breeding project with 700 gram girl.

My male was stressed from the shipping and acting aggressively when it arrived.

Goliath bit the hand that fed him...

The finger required 9 stiches.

OUCH!!!!

Just to clarify. I was not bit. It was a breeder who wishes to remain nameless.

LOL! I wonder if I have their offspring! I have the nastiest little juvenile male beardie ever!

Breeder shall remain nameless....

I too have a bad biter. When I reach in to get his food dish or anything he attacks.

Ugh. I haven't actually been bit my this little tough guy, but I don't doubt his bluff. He will flare, hiss, and threaten to bite when picked up. I have no doubt in my mind that if someone was dumb enough to get a finger close to his face while holding him, that he would definitely chomp.

wow i never seen my beardie get to the hissing point. I have heard of it but he usually just puffs up and then i pick him up and he goes to normal as soon as hes on my shoulder.

Are you guys talking about bearded dragons. Mine is very gentle and would sit still like nothing happen when I reach in to pet her or if she is outside sitting on my hand. Mine is naturally tame eventhough I don't handle her much.

Most of my beardies are like the ones you describe and the dragons I breed are bred for temperament more so than color. I am not a big breeder.

I purchased a high red from a reptile show to add some color and because my breeding pair is getting ready to retire. He was so cute at the show but has been the devil's spawn at home. He needs to be handled more. Most young beardies I've encountered will flare and then run when scared. This guy will flare, then hiss long and loud, then probably bite the snot out of you if given the chance. I've never seen a beardie this fear aggressive or territorial (I'm not sure which, he's only 9mos old).

From what I have found its just some beardies are very agressive and some are not at all. They all have different characters for sure. Someone may have 30 dragons and they are all tame and happy. Then one lays eggs and one of the babies is super agressive and bites. Its crazy but thats what makes them so great.
