shedding issue - advice please!

kennny Feb 15, 2009 04:21 AM

Hi Everyone, one of my snakes is in shed but has had "blue" eyes for 4 days and not a little bit but full blue eyes when normally it only lasts for 24 hours. I've never experienced this before and have kept pythons for several years. Today it is slightly better but i'm still surprised/concerned has anyone ever experienced this before?

Many thanks,

Kenny.

The gray-eye phase occurs when the skin is forming a gap between old and new layers. The eyes clear when this gap fills with fluid which will finally help the skin pull off. If it is too dry this stage can be prolonged.

Recheck your cage humidity and humid-hide areas. You could also soak the snake in a pan of warm water (no deeper than 1/2 the snake's coil) for several hours. Don't panic if it doesn't shed immediately, but you should start to see some eye-clearing in the next day or two.
