What do you think of this guy?

mdc Feb 15, 2009 02:50 PM

Here are some updated shots of a weird normal born in a hypo redgroup jungle litter. The black tail rings are very reduced and he has very little black on him, but I still don't think he is a hypo. He looks very different than the hypos and other normals born in the litter. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think about him.

Thanks,
Matt

I would have to agree with you Matt. Their is something seriusly wrong with him. You need to stick him in his shipping box and send him fast, So that I can get a closer look at him. Lol. Hope all is well with you. Take care.

How many times do I have to tell you, Matt? It's a Hypo and i'm willing to bet money, when you breed him he'll produce Hypos. So,how much???

mdc Feb 15, 2009 06:21 PM

You're wrong Ruben. He's not a hypo.

vcaruso15 Feb 16, 2009 06:17 AM

I agree I think he is a hypo maybe a different looking hypo but still a hypo.

Very nice animal. I would say it's a hypo, IMO of course. I have one from a ghost litter that looks very similar, and I kept her for the same reason, different then the rest of the hypos. Let us know what he produces!!

I'm leaning towards Hypo Matt.
He is stumper though.

Going by the definition of hypomelanistic , itself, this guy would be just that.
hypo- or hyp-
A prefix that means "beneath" or "below," as in hypodermic, below the skin. It also means "less than normal," especially in medical terms like hypoglycemia.
Melanistic - black,

less then normal black in other words, that boa fits that desciption to a tee.
However, it remains to be seen if it is a genetic form of hypomelanism, or jst a hypo melanistic animal all to itself.
One thing for sure, it is a nice looking boa.
Besides the reduced black around the rings, its overall appearance, especialy on the sides looks to be hypo.
Im sure some folks would sell it is a hypo, ive seen far less hypo, sold as hypo.
Just my 2 pennies worth.

It's ok to be wrong sometimes!

amiemac9 Feb 16, 2009 02:55 PM

why do you think it's NOT a hypo?? Certainly looks like one.

Strictly based on a comparison of the other babies in the litter. There were two that were completely normal and many that were hypos, but this guy and one other appeared as nicely colored normals at birth. I assumed they just got the redgroup pastel influence because they didn't look like the normals and they didn't look like the hypos at all.

matt, that is a tough one...my first thought was "extreme" pastel, but it seems I am out voted.

I do see what the others are saying though, it does have the bow tie saddles indicative of early hypos.

It does look "neat" enough to keep...at least for a while...hahaha.

He's deff. an oddball, but I don't think he's hypo. Maybe just an extreme red group? You can always let him come home with me if you need the room! ha-ha I really like the head marking on that guy and the 'soft' look of the saddles with no black.
Take care Matt!
