i have 2 in a 20L now too, and as long as they can find the food theyre fine.

No, its not too big, probably appreciatte all the room with just them two in there. But if you wanted you could fit a few more in there, and it wouldnt be crowded.

I am considering purchasing a new leo within a week or so...it would probably be a couple months old. I found a pet shop that is not very popular and kind of hidden, but they have a lot of leos in there, and for very good prices, and when I looked at them they all seemed very healthy and alert. It is nice to know that I can put in the other leo and have 3, eventually adult, leos and don't have to buy a new tank. Thanks.

this information comes from Ron Tremper who houses 1.5 group in a 16x22x6 plastic sweater box, and I believe a 20 gallon long has the same amount of space.

I just have 2 female leos in there. Is the tank to big for them? I am considering buying some new leos, so if I get one more leo, then I can still keep the 20 gallon long tank without a problem, Even when they are all 3 adults?

its big enough for 3 adults, some people say even moret hen that can fit but i wouldnt go with more then 3 in a 20gallon long.
right now i have only one male in my 20L and he likes all the space to hisself

I appreciate the feedback. I will most likely get another leo for the 20 gallon long, but will stop after that. It's nice to know that I don't have to get a new tank if I do decide to get another leo.

I would say three adult leos for a 20 long tank, maximum. I keep three adult females in mine, and with the amount of hides you would need for more geckos, its would just be too crowded. so three seems to be a perfect amount, personally =)

How many hides do you have for your 3 geckos. If you could would you let me know the layout of your tank? I would greatly appreciate it.

Here is a pic of my enclosure. There are 5 hides total, which includes the moist hide in the corner. There is also a hammock that they sometimes sleep on. I actually stacked one half log on top of another to make sort of a two story hide without taking up any extra room. These are cooler hides, and the red cave and moist hide are the warmest, and the green cave in the middle is just a little warm. They also like to sleep on top of the moist hide as well. Hope this helps! =)

I don't know the exact dimensions but I think their somewhere of 36x12x12? A 16x22x6 plastic sweater box has virtually the same surface area as a 20 gallon long and Ron Tremper has been housing his geckos 6 per sweater box for a couple decades, so I think theres no problem. Just make sure everyone is of about the same size, plenty of food is available, and everyone seems to get along.

I appreciate the help. So if I do get a gecko that is about 4 inches long, so pretty young, and I currently have 2 that are 7 inches that are housed together, I should raise the younger one by herself before I put her in with the older ones? Please let me know, thanks.

thefiradragon May 24, 2003 03:47 PM

i would raise the smaller one by herself

in my most humbled opinion thats his way of maximizing space for breeding, i think its better to give an animal more space if its a pet (or even if its a breeder they should have lots of space with out the stress of another animal walking all over it), not every one is interested in breeding animals and putting the max number animals in an enclosure. kinda in a way makes me think of puppy mills
not that im saying thats how he has them set up that way, i just think an animal should have more space. Ron Tremper is a respectable breeder, but i think an animal should have lots of space.. open flat, and hide space
just my rant hope i didnt offend anyone

just a thought
Ashley
