Ok im a little confused again....

cornball252 Feb 16, 2009 05:12 PM

Ok so i bought this supposed male snow... Now I believe i saw his hemi's so when he wasnt really responding to my female who was twitching and what not.. i threw in another male to hopefully get the snow all riled up but the sunglow went straight for the snow and not the cream who he mated with last year... so im just wondering has males ever tried to mate with other males??

Yes. There was an article on this in the "Herp Question & Answer" part of "Reptiles" magazine several years ago.
The question was asked by one of the largest snake breeders in the United States.
Apparently this sort of thing does happen on occasion, but it is unclear as to why.

I wouldn't bet on either of those males laying fertile eggs though...

So i was comparing their tails after the mating and it does look a little female like but i am still unsure..

from the picture of them mating I would say the snow is a female and it's not two males.
BUT, as Tim said, it has happened.
Anyone nearby that can sex them for you?

. . . by the only male in that union!

It's impossible for a male to breed a male. Without violating TOS for this site, let's just say that there is no receiver in a male that is large enough to accommodate what you saw in that picture. No mystery here. Probing can be wrong, and so can popping, but two adult (and consenting) corns are NEVER wrong. Impossible for that to be two males.

I was thinking the same thing before I read Jimmy's post and would agree that from the 1st pic the snow tail tapers very fast to be male, looks like your snow might be female, I guess you will find out soon enough. Post a good pic of the snow and tail by itself (a top view of whole snake and a hanging side and belly view of tail) , its usually pretty obvious what the sex is just by looking at the tail length and taper relative to the animal. Granted thats not 100%, but I think there would be a general consensus if we had a good look at her.
