i want to keep a few sirtalis and radix in the same enclosure. From what i have read, a radix x sirtalis cross is very rare. I do not want hybrids- do not care for that trend @ all- anyways, any one house the two species together? Thanks

I personally do not, nor would not. I am in the camp that believes that snakes generally want to be alone (other than during breeding) so are better kept alone, same species or not, just giving my oppinion, not saying it's "right" or the "only" way to do things.

i have this 75 gallon tank. it just looks too empty w/ 1 garter in it. figure i'd toss a few hides in there and then each snake could find a cozy spot. i have housed snakes together in the past and they end up in the same hide even if numerous hides are an option. but i do get your drift Boxie, thanks for the input

They may not get in on in the wild.But, If you put them in the same enclosure you have about a 100% chance that you are going to get hybrid babies.

all of your comments are very informative, thanks. i wanted feedback before i chanced housing different tham species together. i do not want hybrids. i hope i have not offended any one who keeps corn X milks or rat X bulls -- not.

snakes in general may want to be alone.....but I find groups of garters together under rocks and boards....actually found 3 sub-adults under a rock on a warm day, the rock was about the size of a dinner plate. I have also found numerous ringnecks under the same board or rock....

housing the together would be fine AS LONG AS they are the same sex.....or you will have hybrids.

finding 3 sub-adults under a rock does not mean that they live togather 24-7 traveling and hinting togather, it just means that rock was a great place to be at that time and 3 ended up there, and sure garters den togather in winter because "the" cave is the place to be to survive, and breeding balls occur ect ect, but they still have a CHOICE to go there separtate ways when they want to, in a cage they do not have that CHOICE. Not to mention it is easier to keep track of feeding (even if you feed in separate container it may, health, shed ect. when housed separate. Not trying to start an arguement or picking a fight, just want to shed the "other view" on the subject for people making new decisions.
