Question about Woma X Balls

djexotics Feb 17, 2009 11:51 AM

A Woma male to a 100% het albino normal female ball.

Will this have the chance to produce a hybrid womaball?
Or will it be all normal balls?
Or can any womas come out of it?

Thanks, Dustin.

Just a guess:

if it was a woma ball python x a het albino ball python all animals would be 50% het albinos and 50% woma ball pythons

if it was an actual woma x a ball python, i would think all your offspring would be a variant of the womaball hybrid since the offspring are 2 different species

It is a woma python x ball python.

Our goal is a hybrid.

Not my snakes nor my pictures but this is what you'll get when you breed a woma python to a ball python.

those patterns look similar to the Ghi ball.

And what do you get when you breed a bulldog to a [bleep]zu ?????

zippy00_99 Feb 18, 2009 09:49 AM

you would make [bleep]zus, bulldogs, and bull[bleep]z's...lol

Not usually interested in hybrids myself, but I must admit this pairing does interest me in terms of disposition and behavior. I don't have a Woma python (not yet- he is still an egg right now) but I am told they have legendary appetites. Balls, on the other hand, not so much. Balls are known for being rather shy; the opposite for Womas. I wonder which side this snake more closely emulates.

That thing is wicked looking. Do you have any more info on them? Not a big hybrid guy but that thing is SMOKIN!!!!!!

I have a male woma python with a female normal ball right now. hoping for a cool outcome.

We made some Walls in 2007 I really like their coloration and pattern. My womas are sweet gently snakes, and the balls are sweet gently snakes, but, the Wall I kept for myself is the meanest snake we have in our collection.. Its OK with me.., we'll keep her anyway. Its just a nice novelty for those who appreciate hybrids. Not for everyone though.

A Woma male to a 100% het albino normal female ball.

Will this have the chance to produce a hybrid womaball?

ALL of the hatchlings will be "Walls" (woma x ball hybrids). They will all also have a 50% of being het. for albino. Essentially all of the animals that you hatch out will look like the photos posted above.

Or will it be all normal balls?
There will be no normal balls at all. Once you cross two species the animals produced from that pairing will have traits (both physical and "social" that represent a combination of the original species.

Once you cross these two animals there is no way to "breed out" either of the lineages. You will always be left with some Woma and some Ball genes.... no matter how many times you out-cross the future progeny. Essentially, you will never be able to have a "pure" species hatch out again. This is one of the main reasons that some people are opposed to hybrids.

Or can any womas come out of it?
See above answer.

To produce an Albino Wall (which I assume is you ultimate goal with this project) you have many options after the first generation hatches out.
You can take the the male Walls and breed them back to the 100% het. Albino dam. However, since each of the males only has a 50% chance of being het for Albino you will not be guaranteed to produce any Albinos. Even if you do, there will be no way for you to tell which male was, in fact, the 100% het Albino.

Lastly, this cross will produce young that are 75% Ball Python and 25% Woma. These hatchlings will not look like the original 50% Woma/50% Ball offspring, but will lean more towards looking (and possibly behaving) like a Ball Python. (The reverse is true if you breed any of the Walls back to the Woma father).

The other route you can take is to breed the Walls back to each other. Since ALL of the offspring are 50% het albino and all of them also have the same ratios of Ball vs. Woma genes the resulting offspring will have the same ratios of Ball vs. Woma genes. Essentially, you will be producing more Walls and some of them will be Albino Walls whereas the rest will Walls that are possible hets. for Albino.
