jungle litter

patoquack Feb 17, 2009 01:14 PM

I found these guys last night at about midnight. needless to say I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night.
There were quite a few stillborns and some that died shortly after birth - one of which was this paradox and 5 albinos. I did get one that I was hoping for.. a sunglow that I think is a jungle and some nice salmons/salmon jungles, jungles and normals all 66% het albino. Mom is a Ronne Pastel het albino and father is a Pete Kahl hypo jungle het albino lipstick line. I was seriously crossing my fingers for this litter. right now I'm not even sure of the total number yet that made it..

thanks for looking.
let me know your toughts about the sunglow.. jungle??

Patrick

Those are some of the nicer jungles I have seen popped out in a while. And the sunglow looks jungle to me.

Congrats, Chris

thanks for the comments Chris, even though I think you don't care for albinos? is that what you told me?

CCS Feb 17, 2009 08:01 PM

I like albinos, I just moved out of Kahl albinos and the collection went to Sharps.

Beautiful litter ,its a tough one to loose those nice babies. That Paradox to me looks like it may have been a Jungle as well.
He seemed to not be fully cooked or didn't absorb alot of yolk,Did he have a big exterior yolk sack?
I hope what you have will continue to thrive,it tears your heart out to watch babies go down.
Beautiful babies !

I also think the paradox was a jungle. the patten was very symetrical (sp?), really cool color too. the eyes were intense! so close..........

the litter came at 105 days POS which should have been good, but she refused any food shortly after her POS - until I fed her today she had gone 92 days since her last meal.

I was a little suprised at how big the babies were, but almost all of them had some yolk left.

Thanks for the info. I'm always trying to consider possibilities.
What would cause a problem like,I've seen it here as well.
Different possibilities can be the culprit. I'm wondering if in your case here two separate ovulation were a few days apart. The second ovulation being those Boas that are less developed. Strangely though they were mostly Albino that didn't make it correct ?
If the scenario I described above is the case two ovulations. Then I find it hard to believe that all of the genetically altered swimmers hit the second ovulation and more were not in the first ovulation. So it seems more related to the Albino Boas themselves I guess.
So close on the first Paradox(maybe Sunglow) Jungle Boa ever.
Try again in the future.
Patrick Congrats on the other healthy litter as well !
Alot of fun for you !

Jeff, I got the female het from you in 2005 I beleive, she is a 03. I'll have to look for more specific info as I just can't remember right now. I just remember that I bought the het from you about two weeks after selling my female suri/cross albino to Brandon Weik.

here's a pic of mom from a few years ago.

That is a Lucy Pastel bloodline het. Your females Mom was actually a Lucy baby from her first litter born in 1989. The same litter East Bay Vivarium bought some babies from in 1989. That bloodline is the founding line that East Bay Vivarium Red Group originated from. Congrats on some lovely critters! I wish you would have had more Albinos though! That one baby is a killer! Well lots of them are great but that one... WOW!

Congrats Patrick!

thanks for the great info Jeff.

I can also add that when I bought this female het from you, I remember that you had already sold the one that I wanted, so you offered me one even better for the same price.

does that sound genuine (which it is), or like I'm getting ready to make a big cage purchase??

losing that paradox really sucked! I sat with the babies way into the morning and was sending that one ALL my thoughts. but it's also a little hard to be really disappointed when I might still have a sunglow jungle. If that one makes it, it will be the only albino or sunglow I have ever produced. I can't really complain about that.

plus when I woke up - I had another litter.. 31 very live and very large babies! I left them with their mother until I could come home for lunch to take them out and clean up the mess.
my first time with two litters within the same day!

best of luck to every one else.. keep posting all the pics of possible hopeful expected litters.

Patrick

litter. Congrats on the double. I pray your sunglow jungle makes it bro. You deserve it after losing that paradox and the low odds and all. Best wishes.

What a litter!

Looks like they all got some big bellies so be sure to keep them in high humidity for the first bit.

That looks sunglow jungle to me!

Congrats on the terrific litter Patrick! It's a shame some of them passed, the do look a little premature. Those are some nice ones that you got, really like the hypo jungle in one of those pics, and I do think you got a sunglow jungle but that's just my humble opinion. Make sure to keep them warm and humid so they soak up those big yolk bellies (as I'm sure you already know!). Can't wait to see the post shed pics and congrats again on producing your first sunglow! That must be an awesome feeling.

but the rest are doing better every day. the big bellies are absorbing and they are starting to look like normal baby boas.
this hobby has some definite highs and lows.

AbsoluteApril Feb 20, 2009 10:11 AM

I'm so sorry to hear about that Patrick! The albinos are always so fragile. Glad to hear the others are absorbing their yolk, got my fingers crossed for you the rest pull through okay.
