New ATB eye looks weird!!

koolgeeg Feb 17, 2009 02:46 PM

Just got an amazon tree boa, and one if its eyes has a wrinkled, small dented, broken glass kinda look to it. its not clear and smooth as the other. I have removed retained eyecaps off of snakes before. Ive soaked it in warm water.. even tried the scoth tape
method.. but no luck. Could this be something else??? Any suggestions...
pS it has ate, so its a healthy snake. VERY VERY aggresive though.

raise the humidity and I'm sure the problem will probably correct itself by the next shed. if it looks infected take him to a specialized herp vet that knows how to deal with amazons, as I know how aggressive they can be.

I would have to agree, if you raise the humidity the eye should get better. This seems to happen often with ball pythons as well with there eyes getting indented. Soak them in a tub of warm water for 30 minutes and it goes away. But in your case, raising the humidity is a easy fix.
Good luck

thanks for the info... I tried a little olive oil while I was soaking him last night., trying to get anything off of it. Im thinking he was dehydrated because as soon as I put it in the new habitat as It went straight to the water dish. Ill keep working with him... but I am through messing with the eye itself.
